Cheryl Frances-Hoad was appointed as a composer in residence in the department of Psychiatry, with funding from the Leverhulme Trust.

Her host in the department was Paul Fletcher, with a variety of collaborators including Alan Blackwell. The resulting piece, "Song without words" (2009) received its premiere at the annual conference of the Cambridge Neuroscience Initiative.
