A project examining how people, young and old, at home and at work are using communications today in the US, UK, China and Australia. It is designed to provide analytic value and insight for planning future generations of retail communications services.

Sponsored by BT, and initiated by Jeff Patmore, this research explored the impact of new communication technologies on family life on several continents. Field research was managed from the Cambridge Engineering Design Centre, with contributions from several other universities. The project resulted in several edited reports, press coverage, and launch of the 'balanced communications diet':
