Many of the researchers who create novel programming languages wish to provide broader access to programming capabilities, allowing a wider range of people to configure and control the technologies with which they interact.
I have been an active contributor to the NSF consortium EUSES (End-Users Shaping Effective Software), which has broadened the agenda from purely programming languages, to issues in design, testing, and other software development activities.
My special interest is in technologies for the domestic context - allowing people to configure and control their own homes.
