Nick completed a PhD at the Centre for Music and Science in Cambridge, supervised by Ian Cross and Alan Blackwell. He is now a lecturer at the University of Sussex, where he directs the Music Informatics degree programme. He is a well-known exponent of Live Coding, and was a founder of the live coding group TOPLAP.

He is author of the popular textbook Introduction to Computer Music.
