This 2002 meeting at CRASSH was convened by Colin Shell (Archaeology) and Mel Leggatt.

The meeting concluded that there was an urgent need for a "Cambridge media laboratory", and the CRASSH annual report records that founding CRASSH Director Ian Donaldson "undertook to co-ordinate efforts to achieve this goal". Work toward that end is now focused in the Cambridge Digital Humanities Initiative.
