ARU is located in central Cambridge, providing an ideal opportunity for geographically local collaboration of the kind that is central to the success of Crucible. ARU has strengths that are complementary to the University of Cambridge, for example on the Digital Performance Laboratory, and the media studies perspectives of the Cultures of the Digital Economy research institute.

ARU and Cambridge collaborated in a large-scale proposal for Cambridge to host the UK national research centre for digital culture in society.
