The Cambridge University Moving Image Studio (CUMIS) was founded as an independent centre associated with the Cambridge department of Architecture by François Penz and Maureen Thomas. CUMIS hosted an innovative Masters programme in Architecture and the Moving Image, and projects funded by companies including BT and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.

CUMIS combined thematic questions of space (Penz) and narrative (Thomas), with direct applications in film, in architectural visualisation, in multimedia digital arts, and in videogame design.
