Nancy Fried Foster is a design anthropologist, specialising in participatory design for academic contexts, supporting scholarly practices. She is based at the University of Rochester, where she contributes to the design of information systems and building architecture.

In Cambridge she provided an introduction to user-centred and participatory design practices for an invited discussion on "Working with users to produce better software for academia", preparing for publication of results from the Crucible project Groups in academia.
