Sally is a lecturer in the Computing Laboratory at the University of Kent where she teaches and researches in Computer Science Education and Human Computer Interaction. An area of especial interest is the use of Patterns and Patterns languages to describe design expertise and to scaffold the transfer of design knowledge.
Her book on project work in Computer Science, co-edited with Marian Petre, was an important source for development of the Cambridge Group design projects: Computer science project work: Principles and pragmatics. Sally Fincher, Marian Petre, and Martyn Clark. Springer-Verlag, January 2001.
