Service Desk Call Handling Procedure

  • RT tickets can be escalated to the ??? by changing the Queue to "UCS ???" with the Owner set to Nobody. Tell the requestor:
    I am passing this request over to our ??? team who, I'm sure, will be in contact shortly.
  • RT tickets can be escalated to the ??? by changing the Owner to ???". Tell the requestor:
    I am passing this request over to ??? who, I'm sure, will be in contact shortly.
  • RT tickets can be escalated by emailing ???@cl.cam.ac.uk and setting the Status to @3rdparty. Tell the requestor:

Outstanding accounts to create for people arriving

Sent into RT from <[mailto:gt19@cl.cam.ac.uk gt19@cl.cam.ac.uk>

  1. Copy CRSid and go to

https://dbwebserver.ad.cl.cam.ac.uk/scg/UserAdmin/UserAdministration.aspx and use Find User: CRSid [Lookup].

  1. If no matching record click [Add New User], paste CRSid & click [Validate] to pull in details
  2. Check name entered
  3. Visitors: Account for new user who should be on office list by review date, untick the Print form? and click [Create Account]
  4. Update RT ticket with comment "Account creation started."
  5. The process then updates AD, email forwarding, LDAP entries and ends with another email coming in to RT in about 30 minutes.


Create home directories for new users

Sent into RT from <[mailto:gt19@cl.cam.ac.uk gt19@cl.cam.ac.uk>

1. When a new RT ticket comes in from the above Create Account process it should be merged with the associated Outstanding accounts to create for people arriving RT ticket for the user.

2. Execute the following commands on a privileged machine:-

 sudo ssh elmer wcc -s CRSid

to check that the string cifsuser is not present

 cd /usr/groups/admin/users
 ./makehomedir CRSid 3455 2
 cd /usr/groups/admin/netapp/conf-elmer
 co -l quotas

3. Edit the quotas file to add a default entry, checking that user@/vol/vol1/homes-$PARTITION matches with the ./makehomedir CRSID UID $PARTITION

 ci -u quotas
 cd /usr/groups/admin/netapp
 make maintain
 cd /global/src/etc/amd.conf
 make inst


privileged machine = laira

Make sure Pageant.EXE is running and has your private key - by double clicking on CL.ppk or similar.

With it running in the system tray launch PuTTY and go to the CL's ssh-remote-0.cl.cam.ac.uk Type kinit & press [Enter] Enter your CL Password for CRSid@AD.CL.CAM.AC.UK & press [Enter] Type ssh -K laira & press [Enter] to get the laira:~$ prompt Give your CL [sudo] password for CRSid: & press [Enter]

check that the string 'cifsuser' is not present (if it is wait 30 minutes & test again)

cd /usr/groups/admin/users ./makehomedir sl738 3455 2 to make their home directory

cd /usr/groups/admin/netapp/conf-elmer co -l quotas

See: RCS/quotas,v --> quotas revision 1.2182 (locked) done (OK!)

vi quotas /^s Ctrl+F to scrool to user@/vol/vol1/homes-$PARTITION" area for CRSid (not there let) Down arrow to start of line above where it should be. Use Shift+A [Enter]

user@/vol/vol1/homes-2 50G 1M

Paste Esc out of INSERT mode

wq[Enter]


rcsdiff quotas[Enter] to check what chnges have actually been made

ci -u quotas (to add a comment on the edit) & put in RT ticket number

e.g. RT #94171 [Enter] .[Enter]

cd /usr/groups/admin/netapp make maintain cd /global/src/etc/amd.conf make inst

give your CL [sudo] password for CRSid: & press [Enter] if required

Takes couple of minutes see: elmer: quota resize vol9 done

then

sudo rdist -cw maps localhost:/anfs/master/dist/all/etc/amd.conf localhost: updating host localhost localhost: maps: updating localhost: updating of localhost finished -r--r--r--. 1 root root 206 Feb 17 2004 /anfs/master/dist/all/etc/amd.conf/maps

exit exit


Print out of password now required

Home directory created needs a password page printing (Prining to "palm" in recption) (will be resolved when printing sorted)
